THE MYTH OF UNBIASED INFORMATION
We live in what we can call an information age, more than ever we have access to as much information as we want, some can even say it’s too much. In this age, information is truly power, even false information. The way we discredit our enemies hasn’t changed much, rumors and lies are a well-known and old tactic, what is different now is how easy and powerful such tools are today. All it take is for a well-known and trusted source to report it, and it suddenly takes the semblance of truth, and usually another trusted source can report counter information to discredit the information the first reported, that doesn’t make these counter reports true though.
We all fall victim to this tactic, we trust our sources so much. We cannot come to the grips that they are wrong, or that we have been deceived for so long. We have been sold the slogan that they provide free and unbiased information of events and circumstances. I’m talking about news channels, YouTube channels, websites, and even blogs like mine. We all trust our sources, and anyone who opposes such “apparent” truth in the face of “facts” must be blind or stupid, or if we’re nice, we can just call them ignorant, thereby giving us a sense of superiority.
I’m not aiming at anyone or organization in particular, just encouraging us that we check our sources. Let us put on our thinking caps when receiving new information, no matter who it is from. Expose yourself to new viewpoints. Everyone is biased, we don’t know everything, what we know shapes what we will know. God bless you
