REFLECTIONS ON SCRIPTURE: OUR HOME IN CHRIST
In the last post I mentioned that I decided to begin reading my bible from scratch keeping in mind all I’ve learned about it in my long break from the book. It’s actually hard to read when you don’t understand what you’re reading, and it makes it very boring. But as I’ve learned about the whole bible over the years, from sources I’m very grateful for, I think I’m now starting to appreciate the complexity yet simplicity of it. I’m beginning to see why it is called the word of God.
If you want a list of these sources, I will put them at the end of this post, they are YouTube channels and blogs run by very talented and deep people. They are not unified in opinion however, and you will see diverging opinions, so be wise and think carefully about what they say.
In the last post mentioned before we took a look at Genesis 1:1, and saw how, in connection to other scripture passages, you can find Jesus there as creator, and subsequently, the Trinity working as One. Genesis 1:1 goes thus:
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” (KJV)
Seeing Jesus as the beginning (Rev 22:13), God as the Father, and the Spirit of God, we get:
“In Jesus the Christ, the Father created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Now we get to the point of this post. Apart from the persons of the Trinity, I highlighted the heaven and the earth. This is intentional, as this is the object of the statement, with God being the subject. Jesus stated that He is in His Father and the Father is in Him (John 17:21). They mutually indwell each other, they make their home in each other in the Spirit. One is in a sense, a temple of the other, a home for the other. This is the context in which creation takes place. The Father is at home in His Son, by the Spirit. Now in His overwhelming Love, He wishes to share that love with the creation He has planned. This is not Just the Father’s desire, but also of the Son, and the Spirit.
In the Triune God’s freely given decision of Love, He creates a home where they will have an extended family, a beautiful family. We call this home, heaven and earth. It is intended to be one place, although separate at first, it will be unified eventually. All this is in the Son, for He is the beginning and purpose of this creation. The Father dwells in the Son and therefore makes this new home in the Son. The home where His beloved created children will dwell with Him forever.
As promised, I will provide some sources that help greatly in understanding the bible’s awesome drive and structure. As I mentioned before, they do vary in opinion, so you need to be wise, but if you are listening, you will be greatly blessed by their insight. God bless you, and here are some of them:
