My obsession with "biblicising" pop culture: Game of Thrones Edition
Since the final season of Game of Thrones is starting soon, I want to share a relatively recent tweet of mine where I tried to see the story, specifically Jon Snow, in a messianic light:
If I wanted to "biblicise" #GameofThrones, I'd do it like this:
Targaryens are like Hebrews, they came conquering the land with fire before them. Starks can be regarded as a sort of gentile, they live on the edge or beyond the land. It does help that the Stark's Symbol is a wolf.
Jon Snow is a messiah, he's born Targaryen (Jewish) but is also followed by those from winterfell (Gentiles). It also helps that he was betrayed, murdered and "resurrected" and now wants to unites the world under him to fight the night King, a personification of death.
The parallels are amazing, and it may tell where the story goes. I predict an "Ascension" of Jon Snow, a betrayal by Daenarhys, a counter betrayal against Daenarhys, some relation between Jon and the Night king. However I may be wrong, Game of thrones has been elusively hard to predict. I'm sure looking forward to it. Valar Morghulis!
